Hunan Steel Group Co., Ltd. originated from Hunan Hualing Steel Group Co., Ltd., which was formed at the end of 1997 by merging three major steel enterprises in Hunan—Xianggang, Liansteel, and Hengsteel. It has since grown into the world's largest single production facility for wide and thick plates, Asia's largest production base for thin-gauge high-strength steel, China's second-largest seamless steel pipe supplier, and the world's most technologically advanced automotive sheet manufacturer, with a production capacity of 26 million tons of steel.
Currently, Hunan Steel Group has established several "hidden champions" in niche markets such as shipbuilding, offshore engineering, bridges, construction machinery, automobiles, high-pressure vessels, oil and gas, home appliances, and military industries. It supplies products to over 150 Fortune 500 companies, with "Hunan Steel Manufacturing" widely used in more than 1,000 mega-projects and key projects globally. Despite the downward trend in the steel industry, Hunan Steel Group achieved total revenue of 219.7 billion yuan and a total profit of 14.958 billion yuan in 2021, 210 billion yuan in revenue and 15 billion yuan in total profit in 2022, and 236 billion yuan in revenue and 10.384 billion yuan in net profit in 2023. Its profitability ranks in the top tier of the industry, and it has been listed among the Fortune Global 500 for three consecutive years.
